Before you dose anything
This is the most common reason a green pool refuses to clear.
The process
- Brush the walls and floor thoroughly. Algae clinging to surfaces is protected from chemicals until it is dislodged
- Clean the filter, or backwash until the glass runs clear
- Once the water turns from green to cloudy grey, the algae is dead. Add a clarifier or flocculant to gather the fine particles
- Vacuum to waste rather than through the filter for the settled debris
- Clean or backwash the filter again, then rebalance
A pool you cannot see the bottom of takes longer.
When draining is cheaper
If the pool is dark green with visible growth on the surfaces, cyanuric acid is high and the finish is old plaster that algae has rooted into, chemical recovery becomes a losing battle.
Never drain a Dubai pool without checking groundwater and opening the hydrostatic relief valve.
