The build-up behind the timber
This is what separates a sauna that lasts from one that rots. From inside out: timber cladding, air gap on battens, foil vapour barrier, insulation, then the existing wall.
The foil goes on the hot side of the insulation, shiny face inward. Without it, moisture passes into the wall build-up and causes damage you will not see until it is serious.
Ventilation
Air inlet low, near the heater. Outlet high on the opposite wall. Without airflow the sauna feels stuffy and the timber stays damp.
What matters in Dubai
Saunas and steam rooms place heat and moisture inside the building. The room build-up, ventilation, drainage and controls all matter. A good finish cannot compensate for poor waterproofing or weak air movement.
What to check before work starts
The existing pool or room should be inspected as a complete system. Visible damage may sit beside a separate problem in the pipework, controls, waterproofing or ventilation. A written scope should identify the affected parts and state which surrounding surfaces need protection or opening.
The room next to a sauna or steam room matters too. Moisture can move into ceilings, walls and joinery when ventilation or vapour control is weak. The inspection should include those adjoining surfaces.
