Skimmer pools
Skimmer boxes set into the wall draw surface water into the filtration system. This is the conventional arrangement and the cheaper one.
Disadvantages: the water line is visible and needs a tiled band.
Overflow pools
Water sits level with the deck and spills continuously over the edge into a channel, then into a balance tank underground. The pump draws from the tank and returns to the pool floor.
Advantages: the surface looks like a sheet of glass. No visible water line.
You need space for a balance tank. Evaporation is higher because the surface film keeps moving.
Which one
For most Dubai villas, a skimmer pool is the sensible choice. Overflow makes sense where the pool is a visual centrepiece, where the plot is exposed to wind and debris, or where the architecture calls for a level deck edge.
A three-sided skimmer with one overflow edge facing the view gives most of the look for less money.
